Hi all,

I'm sure many of you have noticed the huge influx of Devations the last few weeks. I've been trying to get DA all done and dusted before the New Year, and while layouts and icons still aren't done I'm happy to announce that all pictures from the past two years have been updated.

So good news, no more Deviations flooding your inbox. Back to my regular slow upload speed of ... one picture every 2-3 weeks.

I hope to get an ArtStation and Patreon set up eventually, but in the meantime these damn websites have had me so stressed I've been getting periodically ill every 3-4 weeks since trying to get them all sorted. In fact I wouldn't have been able to finish these uploads if I hadn't been stranded at home with a dual case of tonsilitis and a fever right now.

So Merry Christmas and all that, enjoy the art.

Art Tumblr: Quartervirus
Games Tumblr: AwkwardTimezone

Years and years ago I made a "Quartervirus" account just to save the name, then I deactivated it thinking that would free up the name again but apparently not. Maybe I can talk to a DA Dev and convince them to change it for me, but until then hyphens it is. My art Tumblr is one word, however:

Art Tumblr: Quartervirus
Games Tumblr: AwkwardTimezone

All art tagged #sakart. Backgrounds and layouts are still a work in progress but I've finally updated the art from the last two years. I will be chipping away at DeviantArt over the next few weeks.

Hey guys,

Just a heads up that both DA and Tumblr are still very much in progress and I'm trying to sort out all this old crap before updating with anything new. Currently I am combining my gaming blogs into one overall Tumblr account at AwkwardTimezone. I recommend waiting before following it. At the moment I'm spamming everyone's dash with art and RP logs and I doubt many of them are happy.

First of all, I want to say a huge THANK YOU for all of the birthday wishes. I never expected to receive any, especially after being gone for so long, and never even thought to check back here until a friend told me that I ought to see what was going on. So thank you all, and it was really heartwarming to read.

It's hard to believe it's been two years since I was last here, but I was transitioning from college to working full-time, and maintaining an online presence just wasn't working for me. I am still struggling to find a good balance between work, play, and personal projects, but I am finally in a comfortable enough position to get my art websites back up and on track. It's about damn time, I think. So time permitting I plan on making some big changes around here.

For those who miss my old stuff: I will be taking my drawings out of storage and sorting them into an "Archives" folder. You will be able to view all of my old fanart and comics, but keep in mind most of that stuff is three to four years old, if not older. I've moved on from many of those interests, and my opinions (and behavior, thank goodness for that) may have changed. I am not sure if I will edit the artist's comments or disable comments on my old work, I am still undecided on that front. I will also not likely draw many of them anymore, I hope you understand.

Regretfully, I am also unable to be as proactive as I once was with answering people's questions, or chatting in the comments as I used to. I hope to get a FAQ up and running so that hopefully I can address most of your concerns, but with life being what it is now ... you know how it goes. Once again I seek your respectful understanding in that.

For those who are aware of or have been following my Tumblr blogs:

I plan on making some big changes around there too within the next few weeks. I will be combining my three gaming blogs ascottlegacy (SWTOR), neutrollhere (WoW), and awkwardtimezone (Wildstar) into one overall gaming art blog that may also include miscellanous games fanart like my old Assassin's Creed stuff. I also intend to make a separate blog for personal art/characters/miscellaneous fanart, and a separate one for the stupid mishmash I can’t resist reblogging, so as to avoid spamming your dash with crap. All art--gaming and personal--will be uploaded here to DA first.

I may also create a public Facebook page for those who prefer it (and so people can please stop sending me friend requests. My personal FB account is just that: personal. Friends I know personally and family only). I will open an ArtStation account for the polished works I like enough to display in a more “professional” domain. I am considering Instagram for sketches, though I know little about it. I have seen other artists post sketches or quick doodles there, so I may explore that possibility. As of now I am still undecided on what to do with my Youtube account, which has remained mostly untouched for the better part of the last two years.

I will probably start making big changes next week, so if things start popping up or moving around or changing, you know why.

If anyone has any suggestions, I am all ears.

And once again, thank you. The support I received from you guys was never far from my mind, and I hope I can continue to make you laugh and inspire young artists. That's why I want to return, and restore the old art, to remind people artists don't just happen overnight. And because making people smile and laugh is the greatest reward for doing what I do.

It's good to be back.

I need a break.

From DeviantArt, Tumblr, WoW, TOR, all of it.

I don't like sharing aspects of my personal life anymore, but some things have happened and I need time alone. I apologize to anyone who's sent me a note in the past few weeks, whether on here or any of my other accounts; I won't be getting back to you. My Deviations are not deleted, merely hidden, but I have no intention of returning any time soon.

You've all been great.

Kickstart It!

Journal Entry: Sun Apr 6, 2014, 6:51 PM

Hi guys!

Do you like cute cartoon bugs? Toilet humour? Fart jokes? Have an odd sense of humour? Well if you're still sticking around and watching me and haven't gotten weirded out yet, you must have the last one, so you should totally go check out :iconaltalamatox:'s work on the new game Phil the Pill!
Phil the Pill Splash by Altalamatox Phil the Pill Concept Art by Altalamatox

Altalamatox has been working with Curious Media to produce a new App game, and recently shared some of the concept work with us. You can find more of it on their official kickstarter page:… But in order to see the game through to the finish line they need help getting funds! Personally I love the art style and those vibrant colours holy craaaaap Alta how do you do that?!?!?!! and would LOVE to be able to play the final game. And who knows, if they get enough money pledged, they'll even be able to adapt it for the computer so I won't need a new phone to play it!

If you can't pledge money, please spread the word so that news of this fun new game gets around. Personally, I plan on pledging some and then leaving brash, obnoxious messages all over my various social media sites until somebody notices ... so what are you waiting for?!

PillVille needs you!!…………

Journal Entry: Mon Mar 31, 2014, 11:37 PM

That's right, after two eye-opening months, my stay at Ubisoft is over (... which is a shame, because they were offering a prize to the person who could prank their colleagues the best this April Fools!).

It was a great experience; I got the chance to work on multiple projects in the company, doing everything from technical drawings, character concepts, to storyboarding and illustrations. I was constantly challenged to produce faster and better work, including some digital and matte paintings, which I still struggle with immensely. By the end of the two months I was finally getting a handle on things, but alas, all good things must come to an end. I wish I could share some of my work with you, but I am sworn to confidentiality.

I made some good friends while I was there; the art director is a friend to the animation program leader at LASALLE, and he purposefully challenged me to start practicing digital painting. I was sat next to the senior storyboard and concept artist at Ubisoft, and received constructive criticism straight from the source. I'm going to miss our Friday Concept Artist Lunches, swarming down on Star Vista like the starving art locusts we were ... and drinks at the end of the week courtesy of "Princess Harry".

So now I'm back at LASALLE. While I may not be able to share my Ubisoft work, I'm hoping to continue practicing those new skills I learned by applying it to my personal work. I am still illustrating Voltaire's picture book 'The Legend of Candy Claws', which takes up a LOT of my "spare" time, but I do plan on making a return to Honour Amongst Thieves when I can. I have been doodling a lot for the project and conceptualizing whenever I can, with the intent of developing the cast and story for a graphic novel format. As of now I am unsure if I will finish the animation itself; I really don't have the same zeal for animating as I do for comics and storytelling, and after slogging away at it for well over a year now, the initial enthusiasm I had for the animated short is all but extinguished. The characters and their interactions have developed well beyond the film, and I would rather begin sharing their new story with you, as opposed to telling the old one.

Just a brief life update for now. I am aware that I still have to make that FAQ journal; I have so many projects on my mind that I'm overflowing.

Stay fabulous.

Want to Work in the Industry?

Journal Entry: Thu Feb 27, 2014, 6:25 PM

:iconbjpentecost: made a very good journal entry where she briefly discusses what to expect in the film industry, and I thoroughly recommend reading it to familiarize yourself with what it's like:

If you are considering going into the industry....If you are an artist or want to be one, especially if you want to get into the VFX industry, you should watch this:
It touches on a few things I feel are important to understand as an artist and even as consumers of art:
1.) Art is not an exact science. It can be difficult to put a price tag on it, let alone the often very complicated processes of making it.
2.) Computers are tools that facilitate our work but they DO NOT do the work for us.
3.) Don't get into this industry for the money. If you go into this line of work, you do it because you love it. If someone happens to get lucky or has a really great idea and he/she hits it big, GREAT! Good for him/her. But don't go in expecting that to happen to you. Chances are it won't. If you are lucky, you will find a nice middleclass job you can support yourself and your family on for a while...... until....
4.) Unfortunately, a lot of employers see artists as disposable. When they no longer need you, they will kick you to the curb an

I also recommend following her link to this video:… which really drives home some of the issues with the demographic for artists/VFX in the world right now. As an animation graduate we are made aware of these discrepancies while still at college, and the hefty workloads and looming deadlines with zero compensation and lack of sleep could be considered a precursor to what we could expect in future.

A lot of people still seem to have rose-coloured glasses over their eyes in regards to what it must be like to be a "good artist" hired in the industry; this is the reality of it. You have to take the good with the bad, there are no guarantees, and you really, really have to love what you're doing.

Ask Me/FAQ

Journal Entry: Tue Feb 25, 2014, 10:56 PM

Hi guys,

Figured it's about time I made one of these: I've been an active member on DA since well back in 2005, and over the years have received tons of comments and notes asking me various things from what programs I use, to what animation at LASALLE was like, to why I am called "Canadian-Rainwater" when I clearly live in Singapore. I used to be able to answer all of these questions individually but unfortunately I can't always keep up with them anymore, so I would like to create a Frequently Asked Questions journal.  I will publish them in a FAQ soon, and I will try to categorize them to make navigation easier.

Feel free to ask anything, any questions about me or my art/process, characters, any personal questions, whatever. I'm generally pretty easy-going about these sorts of things.

Working @ Ubisoft

Journal Entry: Tue Feb 4, 2014, 3:40 AM

Not even kidding, though my contract is only for two months so far. I was offered a unique opportunity to work alongside experts in the industry, and was recruited for concept art, illustration, and storyboarding, bouncing around to see where I might fit with my toony style. It's only been day one so far, but I'm working right alongside professionals and get to learn from them first-hand. Pretty sure I'm still reeling. Obviously I can't tell you what we're working on due to confidentiality agreements, but it's pretty cool to see all the behind-the-scenes action my own self.

Unfortunately, this does mean a significant stall in my (slow) progress on HAT, my animation-to-be. While working at LASALLE I literally spent every minute animating if I wasn't busy assisting teachers; now the only time I'll have to work on it will be when I get home, and on the weekends. Finishing the illustrations for Voltaire's upcoming children's book 'The Legend of Candy Claws' still takes priority, and I've got a billion-and-one things I want to draw for myself. Personal projects, unfinished animations, and Gothic literature aside, I am still grateful for this opportunity. Either way, I can only imagine how drawing copious amounts of pirate-y concept will only help me for HAT in future ...

Open House @ LASALLE College of the Arts

Journal Entry: Thu Jan 16, 2014, 7:40 PM

Hi guys,

Just a quickie before I have to go rushing back downstairs: today and tomorrow is the LASALLE Open House, on Friday 17th and Saturday 18th, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. We've got T-shirts, we've got candy, we've got activities and we've got an Animation Exhibition at B1 in the Earl Lu Gallery for all of you who've ever had an inquiry about what my course was like. Myself and my colleagues from the animation course will be on-campus and manning the exhibit to answer any questions you might have, so Singaporean watchers who are curious to see what my College is like, feel free to come on down.

For more information:…

Additionally, I am so proud of my mother :iconj0rosa:, who has an ongoing solo exhibition of her original artwork from January through until the end of February, at the Volvo Art Loft on Alexandra Road. She's practiced her technique for many years to get to where she is, and worked very hard to make the exhibit happen. Yesterday was the opening night, but the gallery is still open, so anyone who wants to drop by to look at more traditional work using oils and acrylics feel free to take a look. She is selling!

See you in the 'verse.

Hey guys!

My friend and colleague at work, Qing Sheng, has entered an animated short into the Digicon6 festival, and all of us over here at LASALLE would appreciate it if you dropped him a vote! Simply head on over here and "Like" this video:…

He his a mostly self-taught 3D animator, who graduated last year from ADM. Digicon is an Animation Film Competition featuring mostly student groups or solo projects, and we would appreciate any support. Thanks all in advance!

(PS: There are over 20,000 of you supposedly lurking around my gallery, I will be sorely disappointed if this doesn't get at least 20,000 votes!)

Meet And Greet the Voice of James!

Journal Entry: Thu Sep 19, 2013, 8:56 AM

That's right!

Richard Johnston--voice actor for James Hunter from 'Honour Amongst Thieves'--will be attending the London Film and Comic Con (in England!!) on Sunday, October 6th. He has personally invited any HAT fans that might be heading over there to come to say hello ... or to "ask James to shout at them!" He is always very happy to fling James-like, beffudled profanities.

A face for radio!

He will be wearing his recogniseable shirt, tie, and waistcoat from the HAT Podcasts, so if you see him don't be shy. He is Nice Peoples. I, unfortunately, will be unable to attend ... one day, Richard! One day!

Win Art From Me!

Journal Entry: Wed Sep 4, 2013, 4:25 AM

Thass' right.

My commissions are still CLOSED and I don't work for free (so PLEASE, people, stop asking for requests) but if you head on over to :iconthe-oc-consortium:, join our ranks, and participate in the latest Exciting Competition, you can stand a chance to win a full-color, full-body, single character sketch from me if you napbfirst prize.

You can read the details of the competition here:
The 'Dynamic Pose' Contest! + EditsEdit: This is now an open contest! You do not have to be a member to participate! Please read carefully the contest info below, especially if you're unfamiliar with the way our contests are run.Alright my minions. It's that time of month again, and I promised you something good for September's contest.
I call it the Dynamic Pose Contest.
Yes, you probably know where this is going just judging from the title. The point of this contest is for you to draw one (or more) of your characters in a particularly dynamic pose. I'll be looking for usage of foreshortening, perspective, and squash-and-stretch techniques. (And if you don't know what any of these terms mean, then you can easily Google them. I checked. Google gives you good results if you just plug in the words.)
I'll be judging this competition based on how much effort you put in to breaking your character out of their usual poses. Some of us already know how to draw dynamic poses, while some of us have yet

There are examples of full-color sketch commissions I've drawn in the past in my gallery, or you can head on over here to check out what you're in for:

So all you people who want to commission me, what are you waiting for? Now's your chance to get one FOR FREE! All you need to do is participate!! I want to see butts on seats and people drawing!

Life Update - HAT News, etc.

Journal Entry: Sat Aug 24, 2013, 10:24 AM

Hullo my fellow Deviants,

It's about that time for a new journal entry, as a lot has happened since last I was seen lurking about this site. I have new Honour Amongst Thieves Questions and Answers podcasts, Amnesia videos, and photos, as well as news on my current job(s), and the results of :iconredeaddie:'s fantastic Louis cosplay. So how about I just start from the beginning?
Brendan Julian was over in Singapore for three weeks towards the end of my summer break, which was responsible for most of my absence. For those who don't yet know, he is the voice for Louis Despatis in my (as of yet) unfinished animation. Much fun was had. As well as dragging him all over the island and introducing him to all manner of wild and weird Asian cuisine, we also spent a lot of time at Universal Studios, Singapore, with my LASALLE besties for Livia's birthday. Brendan got to hug Reese's Pieces man, Beetlejuice tried to kiss me, and then chased Livia around to give her "Birthday Spanks". Yep, lots of fun.

The official Converse-five!

Brendan and I are also officially an item now, so that's a thing.

Videos: While Brendan was over, we held another Questions and Answers Podcast for Honour Amongst Thieves with the other voice actors, SungWon Cho and Richard Johnston. Links below:

Also, Brendan Plays Amnesia, and nearly pisses his pants on several occasions:

Remember, if you have any additional questions you would like me to ask the VAs at a future date, ask them in the HAT Podcast QnA Journal, here: canadian-rainwater.deviantart.…

Work: And now the summer is over, and it's back to work. Literally, in this case. Having graduated with a Bachelor of Honours in Animation, I am now teaching assistant for 2D animation at LASALLE College of the Arts. While I did get an offer in the industry, I was financially unable to accept the job. I understand several people familiar with me via DA are attending the animation course now, and I apologize if I scared the everliving heck out of you by turning up to your classes.

While my position is full-time, I have several hours "free" between classes, during which I work on my commissioned work. As I have no classes on Thursday, it has been designated my Do-Not-Touch-Me-While-I-Am-Animating-Or-I-Will-Bite-Your-Hand-Off Day while I work on finishing my animation, Honour Amongst Thieves.

My workspace needs more motivational posters.

My intention is to finish the animation before my contract expires at LASALLE, so that I have more completed work in my portfolio. I will also attempt to practice more painting and style variation, based on feedback from artists in the industry.

Work ... for Voltaire?: As well as employment at LASALLE, I have also been collaborating with author, singer, songwriter, animator, and one of my biggest idols--Voltaire--to produce a children's book. I have been slowly chipping away at the illustrations, though the pressure is on to meet a Christmas launch. If you're curious to find out more information about the book, as well as seeing some sneak-peeks of the illustrations, you may want to follow Voltaire's official Facebook page:

For more Sneak-Peeks of my illustrations, including the first few stanzas of the story, you may find this official Vlog interesting:

This, coupled with my full-time work, is the primary reason for the lack of personal work around here. I barely have the time to breathe at all right now.

Cosplay! And on the topic of losing one's breath, :iconredeaddie: did a FANTASTIC job putting together her very own Louis outfit, and parading around all day in those killer heels! For those who have not yet seen her photos (taken professionally, too) I definitely encourage you to follow the links below to her DeviantArt account:

As well as strutting about the con as Louis, she also gave him the opportunity to show off his flamboyant fashion in the Cosplay Contest parade up on stage:…

She also hosted the Beginners Pirate Cosplay panel:… AND the Beginners Pirate Cosplay panel:…

She also attended the Masquerade Ball as Louis, and even got her photo taken and showcased in the My San Antionio Internet Newsletter, here:

AND she also hosted the Cosplay Dating Game as Louis, while half-asleep with her feet killing her, no less:… My dear girl, is there anything you didn't do?!

Resa, you did a FANTASTIC job, giving Louis full, fabulous justice. You not only turned out an insanely detailed costume in a limited amount of time, you also attempted to emulate his voice, and managed to preserve his integrity as much as possible in the face of howling Yaoi-fanatics. Thank you so much for sharing your work here, and feel free to do it again whenever you feel like it.

So that's what I've been up to these past few weeks, for those wondering where I went. I hope everyone else had a fantastic summer ... no really, enjoy it while you can!

Pirates Beat Ninjas - Louis Goes to Con!

Journal Entry: Thu Aug 1, 2013, 12:53 AM

Greetings, watchers!

Our very own :iconredeaddie: will be attending the San Japan Convention this August - San Antonio's Major Anime Convention - and will be hosting a panel on pirate culture and costume. She will be dressed to kill - as Louis Despatis.

The convention runs from August 16-18th. The panel is on Saturday (Aug 17th) at 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. You can find more information on her event here:…

As well as the panel, she will be appearing as Louis for the Cosplay Catwalk, the Masquerade Ball, and even hosting the Dating Game Panel on the same day. I've long admired RedeadDie's costuymes, especially her work as Jareth in the past, and am super excited to see her finished work on Louis. Unfortunately, being in Singapore I can't attend the con, but if you're in the area and have a free day, then go on down and show your support!
