I sure do! I wanted to advertise my art on my Neopets account, but I got a warning that my account would be frozen if I continued to do that.

He's always super-fun. I was inspired a lot by Child_Dragon's take on him; I only wish I could have been a Neopian Times artist with all the rest of my idols back then.

Yep.  Totally is me and if I had your neopets username, I can prove it.  Started watching your account for something totally unrelated and then saw the Neo stuff and was like 'oh wow, the memories.'  I've been waiting until you posted all the installments of Question of Loyalty to go read it all in one sitting, but I saw this picture and it just cracked me up.

Oh, I believe you. I'd been lurking on your page before as well--sometimes I check out my watcher's stuff--but I never would have guessed that you were child_dragon! I've been sitting on this comment a while; I had one of those "oh my god what do I do" moments, and my brain shut down. My art was pretty sub-par (and my writing, too!) when I first joined Neopets, but I got hooked on yours and meratocat's work (The Zafara Assassin), and I used to tell myself that one day I'd be good enough to be published up there with you. Sadly it seemed that by the time I started getting published in the Times, everyone else had quit or moved on, which is understandable.

Your series of three short stories about the girl who works under Doctor Sloth was so entertaining for me, well-written, not too long, and deliciously funny with your injection of dry humour into Sloth's character. As silly as it sounds I printed them out and used to read them when I was feeling down at school back then. It's definitely what inspired me to draw my own take on it; I used to wonder what you would think if you saw it. I never would have dreamed that you'd be watching me ... !

Oh man, you can blame Kiddo for connecting me here, but you don't know how much it tickles me to see such an AMAZING artist listing me as an early inspiration.

I've since focused on art rather than writing, but I have so much nostalgia for those old writing days that I need to bring them back in graphic novel form.  It's actually been on my radar to do a re-written version of The Zafara Assassin as humans in comic form in the future.

Oh my goodness, are you kidding me?! I cannot believe that was your art I stumbled across before, I can't believe it's you. It's absolutely phenomenal! I had no idea you could draw so well, your stories already left me in awe and intimidated back when I got real into The Zafara Assassin. I love your use of colours and both your lined and line-less style. Wow ... and now you're here, excuse me while I fawn. I was such a dork at one point I printed out the entire series, put it into a binder, and read chapters of it before bed. In my defense I was only 12 years old ...

I actually found your art here several years ago by searching for Zarrel Charmaine, but I'm floored at how much you've improved since then! I'd love to see her adventures come to life in a graphic novel, the original stories were already so great! I'd love to do my own take on a human her sometime, it might not look the same as yours, just for fun with your permission of course.

And thanks for the comment, it really means a lot. =) I always hoped to get into the Times with you and Kiddo back then; I'm still on cloud nine that you said hi!

Hahaha, funny you mention Meratocat.  She's kiki-doodle on here.  We still keep in pretty close contact.  I harass her while she's at work and try to get her to draw goats in stuff for me.

Man, those stories with Geek were fun... part of me wishes I hadn't abandoned them, but I was getting real sick at that point - I think that was the timing on everything, it's hard to remember - and things just got so bad that I stopped writing.  I remember I had a lot more planned out but my life was just a mess that last year of college.  But those were the start of my fascination with writing villains and anti-heroes and it's something I think I've gotten fairly good at since.  I got caught up on your Question of Loyalty series and I gotta say, they're fantastic.  I love the take and am really tickled that your vision of Sloth fell so close to how I pictured him as well.  Sak is particularly fun.  Geek never had enough of a backbone to give crap back to Sloth.  Plus, the artwork is great.  I enjoy your style quite a bit.

Holy cow. O__O My jaw hit the floor when I saw how much she's improved. I had no idea that was her art! ... Any particular reason why goats? (It's the Chinese Year of the Horse in Singapore this year ... apparently that's a good thing for people born in the year of the goat, like myself. Not that I follow that stuff too closely. =P )

I love Geek, and I love your take on Dr. Sloth. I can understand leaving Neopets though; once I noticed you weren't submitting to the Times I always just figured Real Life happened, and when I was in high school/college the same thing happened for me. I'm kind of glad I took the breaks I did; the ideas for these comics are years and years old, but I've been able to refine to be less ... fangirlish? By revising them mentally for the last five or six years.

Your writing of Sloth rang so close to how I imagined he would behave, too, that I tried to do it as much justice as possible in the strips. Sak is a self-insert though, since my sister and I always imagined the what-ifs and wherefores if we were actually in Neopia interacting with our pets. I would love to include Geek/a cameo of Geek/a cameo of you into future Sloth series, though, if you want. =) It's about time I started populating the Space Station with more humans ...

Yeah they froze my main for a misunderstanding.  No matter what I said to them it fell on deaf ears.  I even told them to take the item in question back and remove all my points they feel I obtained illegally.  Nothing.  Back in the day they would have bargained like that.  Now they act like Nazis and if their very life depends on the choice they made.  The fella was downright rude too that answered my ticket so I just let it go.  It wasn't worth my stress and crying at that point.

That's a real shame, although in my experience the Help Desk now has been better than it was before. I actually lost my PW to my current account and freaked out, because I wanted to continue writing Horace's stories, so I sent in a ticket explaining that I was the real owner of the account, but the e-mail associated with it was old and defunct. When I lost my PW for an older account back in 2004 they never got back to me, even after weeks and weeks of sending in repeat tickets, and eventually I gave up. With this account they had reset my password within a day.

But then I guess passwords are different than rule-breaking. I've always been very careful about what I do around the site to avoid getting frozen; I don't want to lose all my pets, and all my work on writing/drawing their stories.

I know what you mean.  I lost an almost 8 year old account with a huge lupe gallery and stamp collection.  My fire lupe was a battle dome pet and he had runner up in booktastic and regular book reading not to mention runner up in gourmet foods.  I had a good avatar collection going on as well as lots and lots of key quest tokens.  It is a shame when they deal with real money and don't care how much you spend.  You do something suspicious or "wrong" in their eyes and you're dead without just cause.  I tried really hard and even had friends write in for me in forums and the like and nothing.  Back in the day the bargaining I tried would have worked.  Now with what happened I stay under the radar.  I rarely post on forums, I have Neofriends blocked, I avoid guilds.  I rebuilt thanks to some good Neopians and good IRL friends, but I will never get the things back I lost like those key quest tokens or retired avatars and stamps.  Ah well :(

Oh my god. Wow, that IS a shame! I'm sorry to hear that it happened. Personally I always avoided the boards--or forums of any kind, for that matter--and was always super cautious about obeying the rules. No bad words, illegal music, no stock broker (but I don't understand that stuff, anyway) and so far the only accounts I've lost I've remaccted myself. When I had trouble getting my comics into the Neopian Times I was able to get in touch with someone on the TNT on the Neopian Times Writer's Forum who explained what I had done wrong ... maybe there's some way to do that for your old account? Although I imagine the time for that is long past by now. =/

*snerk* I especially like Sloth's expression in the background.  He knows something's up, that it's not immediately a threat to him, just not what it is exactly and it's puzzling him.

Okay, just to clear things up, there's nothing between them sans the semi-antagonistic employer-employee relationship, right?

It's alright. Ever since I was little I imagined myself in Neopia with my pets, so the self-insert continued into the comics. But I would never be as presumptuous as to pair myself/a non-canonical character up with ie: Sloth, it would break his establish persona far too much. And I'm a stickler for canon.

I salute you for being able to hold-true to that decision!  Not a lot of people can, with often...disturbing results. *shudders*

While we're on the topic: Is Caspira/Cipher Twelve a self-insert as well?

I've had these comic ideas in my head for a long time, actually, but I am very glad I only began drawing them recently. Had I drawn them several years ago back when I was in middle/high school, the results would have been disturbing indeed ...

Nope! Caspira is :iconlesatho:'s Cipher agent. Likewise Azil'mort is :icongellyh:'s Sith doctor; most of the characters in Laz'ab's comics or stories are other players, since I roleplayed him on a server in Star Wars: the Old Republic.

Story/comic ideas can be like fine wine, they taste better the longer they sit undisturbed (or unwritten/drawn as the case may be).

That's what I figured, from the various references in you SW artwork, but when I saw a vague resemblance I figured I'd better ask rather than assume.
