Louis (Blondie) Hair Color Swatch by Quarter-Virus Louis (Blondie) Hair Color Swatch by Quarter-Virus

Homework for LASALLE College of the Arts: Zeroing in on the "final" look for Louis. If I ever turned this into a graphic novel he would definitely have more wardrobe options, but for now I have to choose the one.

I think I'm bit late commenting but props for going through all the color combinations possible. That's dedication!

#7 seems to fit rather nicely. Maybe a pinch darker to avoid loosing his pretty face among the curls? Something between #4 and #7 I think.

I am going to agree with ~Vinctia... I think the color would suit him.... but none of us know the character that does most of his actions in your head and not in the comics we what would we know? ;P

I like 2 or 4 the most, they seem to represent all the comics with Louis the best
Cooldudenibb Featured By Owner Oct 22, 2012  Hobbyist General Artist
I agree, I like #4, but #2 is nice too.
elinovitch Featured By Owner Oct 19, 2012
Personally I'd go with #3 (Ash) or #7 (Beige), it just fits his "style" the best. The darker tones makes him seem too "dirty", lighter colors show cleanliness, also more flamboyant and elegant.

Platinum still my fav.... I think face is fine
SakuraDreamerz2 Featured By Owner Oct 10, 2012
Beige looks the best if you ask me!
CharishiShimeris Featured By Owner Oct 7, 2012
I think #7 is perfect. Not too light, not too dark.

Btw, love Louis!
Ibitsue Featured By Owner Oct 6, 2012
I like platinum the most ^-^

I'd go for beige or platinum, maybe ash. The lighter shades just flounce better.
whenbordomestrikes Featured By Owner Oct 1, 2012  Hobbyist General Artist
I really like the beige... The light colours look best on him, The more brighter blonde is too similar to the gold trim.
Love your work, especially with this character!
brittninja Featured By Owner Sep 30, 2012  Student Digital Artist
I personally would lean toward a lighter color. My favorite of the bunch here is Ash. I think it makes a nice contrast with both the white in his face/outfit and the gold trimming. But that's just my opinion. :3

I really like the strawberry and platinum

I like the platinum or beige. I'm enjoying watching the process of you building Louis as a character :)
DuskChant Featured By Owner Sep 30, 2012  Student General Artist
The more I think about it the more I like the idea of Louis' hair being not his natural color. Maybe his natural tone isn't even so far away from that color (which would make for some hilarious "can't you see the difference?" dialog) but it might still bother him really bad. It would be funny if Louis went crazy in jail because his hair line is starting to show and he cannot dye it back.
TheRealSugarBaby1 Featured By Owner Sep 30, 2012
i love the platinum
DuskChant Featured By Owner Sep 30, 2012  Student General Artist
#4 or #6 so the face stands out a little more. Leaning towards #4 because it looks less natural as a color. (I actually like the idea of Louis being not naturally blonde and ashamed/furious about it. xD)
#3 or #7 because I think light blond suits his flirty/"airy" personality, the darker blonde tones look too "solid" for him.

#3 needs a lighter color for the clothes.
#4 calls for a warmer toned wardrobe. As does #6.
And #7 would go with anything just fine.

I think your best bets are Medium-Blonde, Beige, or Strawberry, all the others seem to be too dark, too light or out of character for him. o v o b

I love this character design :D I can't even decide which hair colour I like most because the all look so great, haha.
Have you ever heard of Prince Poppycock? [link] Louis reminds me strongly of him!
Quarter-Virus Featured By Owner Sep 30, 2012  Professional Filmographer
I am indeed familiar with Prince Poppycock, though it was because of Louis, and not before. His makeup and fashion was a partial influence, but mostly Louis acts nothing like His Highness.
FrogPrincess01 Featured By Owner Sep 30, 2012  Hobbyist General Artist
I like the light ones the most, 1,3 and 7
D-Card Featured By Owner Sep 29, 2012
Medium blound seems to fit his look best. I'd actually suggest changing the golden trimmings of his outfit to a different shade, so it wouldn't blend in. Maybe #10 for the trimmings, if you did?

Personally, I'm feeling the ash the best but that's just me :)

I myself wouldn't go for the blondes because to me it clashes with the yellow in his outfit. I like copper and copper-Golden
blackthornsos Featured By Owner Sep 28, 2012
dude I'm with you, medium blonde is the way to go ^-^
outlander-girl Featured By Owner Sep 28, 2012
I would actually say #1 or #7. They're both very light, which makes me think of all those powdered wigs, but still have rich enough color to not wash out his make-up. I realize that it's not supposed to be a wig, but he just makes me think of French aristocracy, which makes me think of wigs.
Wyrdling Featured By Owner Sep 28, 2012  Hobbyist Photographer
I prefer no. 7, beige. I think it works really well with the other colours while he's still "properly" blond - it's iconic and eyecatching ^^
o-rlyization Featured By Owner Sep 28, 2012  Student General Artist
I'm liking the platinum, biege, and medium-blonde. I'd have to say the platinum makes him a touch more girly, in my head.
LilayM Featured By Owner Sep 28, 2012  Student Filmographer
Well, I must say I just love #7 since #1 & #3 are just too fair, almost white, and this is definitely fair blond. It's also of a softer palette, ust as #6, so if it had to be darker, I'd pick strawberry (you say dull and washed out, I say... matching? looks more like a part of a perfected set). The #4 medium-blonde you like so much... I just don't like the hue, I guess? Too green, too sharp for me. (Sorry, I know it must sound like babbling, but it's just so hard to discuss colors, especially not in your first language.) And yeah, I was going o make the same comment you had about trimming - it melts together. (I refrained from reading your comments before I had mine, didn't want to take a suggesion)
So... I really, really like beige. It might be even a pinch darker... yeah, I actually tried that, works just fine - at least in my opinion. Something between beige and strawberry.

PS: And I'm thrilled you decided to go with blue. He does look good in it, indeed.

Fifty Shades of Blon-- *SHOT*

But in all seriousness, my personal preferences go out to #3 or #7, but if you indeed were to make the rimming a little darker, then definitely #4!
Random-Highjinx Featured By Owner Sep 28, 2012  Student General Artist
I'd think either #1 or #7. They both have an appropriate amount of contrast between the gold of the sash and the gold edging along the top of the hat and gloves. The face doesn't seem to wash out THAT much, at least for #7. I guess the risk you'd want to take would depend on how much face time he gets in the 3 minute film. If it's all zoomed out, then it might be better to try and find a happy place between #10/#6 because at first glance, those where the ones that stood out most to me.
Phyllipa Featured By Owner Sep 28, 2012  Hobbyist General Artist
Have you considered swapping the gold for silver? I can think of reasons not too, certainly, e.g. gold is the typical pirate colour, might blend too much with the white, hard to create an accurate flat silver colour etc. but I am thinking that it will not melt into his hair and silver is generally a much daintier and feminine choice as opposed to gaudy flashy gold. Obviously Louis is a flamboyant personality and therefore may demand gold but he is also feminine and romantic as shown by his hopeless crush on the Commodore? Is it worth a shot just to see how it looks?
FatNerdFactory Featured By Owner Sep 28, 2012
Although his face might get lost, I can't help leaning towards #3. It's almost cream colored so it has an air of softness that is usually tagged to femininity but it's still rather sharp against his clothes so it makes him standout.
PeacefullyCrazy Featured By Owner Sep 28, 2012  Student Writer
I agree with your choice for #4. It looks more Louis than all the rest.
Eppon Featured By Owner Sep 28, 2012  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
Not to be weird or anything, but have you ever tried highlights? I know it's not very setting appropriate, or easy to animate but it might look interesting to put in a single(or a few) lighter/darker lock of hair in. Also what might work is adding a sheen to the gold of the clothes, which once again is tricky to animate, I suppose.
Beyond that, #2, #4 and #5 seem the best ones to me. Just my opinion. :)
wikigiuli Featured By Owner Sep 28, 2012  Professional General Artist
he's too blonde not too love XD
SpadeArts Featured By Owner Sep 28, 2012  Student General Artist
I really like 5 but you'd have to go lighter with the sash/trim. Other than that I think your choice of 4 is the best.
xClaudeFrollosGirlx Featured By Owner Sep 27, 2012   Traditional Artist
even if his face is risking getting lost i still am leaning towards 1, 3, or 7, :3
WeepingPiano Featured By Owner Sep 27, 2012  Hobbyist Artisan Crafter
I really like 3, but I understand why you are leaning towards 4. I agree that tweaking the trimmings with go a long way in separating the two colors.
Murielle Featured By Owner Sep 27, 2012
At first I am most drawn to #3, since it feels most in keeping with your previous images, but for the sake of his face, I think that #7 stays the closest while staying a bit farther away from the facial color. I definitely lose the face more in #3 versus #7. My next choice would be #4 or #2, which both pop the face nicely, but do blend into the gold sash. I want to argue that you wouldn't have to worry about losing the face since he has the makeup to bring your attention right back to it, but I know that it is a tough call.

Curse you Louis for looking good in EVERY color!
tier-xhan Featured By Owner Sep 27, 2012
I really think #4 suits him best, but I agree on the sash blending. Have you tried making the sash red? That way it would tie in with his hat, keep the blue/red/gold colors, and I think it might pop more. Just a thought.
Quarter-Virus Featured By Owner Sep 28, 2012  Professional Filmographer
I did try a red sash, but it takes the focus away from his eyes again. I will continue experimenting, though.
