WARNING: OLD ART!! The art and comments in this Deviation may no longer represent the artist's current views or interests.

I am frequently asked how Laz'ab is supposed to sound, so for Halloween I did my best crazy Sith impression and threw this together (people in GEMA-countries will need to find a way around the block to view it, unfortunately):

Ffffff, I sort of desperately want to play with his makeup design at some point.  <3  Assuming you'd be cool with that, of course.

Absolutely! This was my first attempt at it, so it's not perfect, and I was a bit clunky with the paint, but I had a ton of fun. The video's not so good though, so you can't see how pale my face really was, and the veins all over the place. Maybe I'll have to do this again ...

You should absolutely play with it some more.  I've found folks that are good with 2d art tend to be good with makeup.
I'm one of those silly exceptions.  I'm decent with makeup, but not so great with actual 2d art. >.<  Hah!

It helps that I've drawn his tattoos so many times I've got them practically memorized, even the ones down the length of his lekku. Though getting them symmetrical was challenging, especially with me jumping halfway through the new Freddy remake and scaring makeup across my face ...

Only an hour for that? Oh man, I envy you! Then again, seeing your previous makeup, I'm sure you have a much faster and steadier hand that I. :P
For Halloween I recently went as Rabbit from Steam Powered Giraffe, and took me about 2 hours to do the makeup... But it was the first time I ever did so much detail and had to actually do lines, as opposed to normal makeup.

Haha, love these lip syncs. :D So glad you found the time for this, you rock hon!

Oh wow, Rabbit must be a tough one! I could maybe do Spine ... simpler makeup, and I'm tall-ish for a lady. =P

Actually I was watching the Nightmare on Elm Street remake while doing this, and jumped several times. Thankfully I move so much that the uneven-ness isn't so glaring. :P

Rabbit was a lot of fun to do, despite the fact I was only able to wear it all for an hour until chaos and my vision was put in jeopardy. (I wear glasses and got contacts for the costume-- some makeup apparently got in UNDER the contact. Whoops. )

I was sad, my friend was supposed to play Spine with me but he didn't make it back in time. Fortunately, he still had a gnoll costume and a worgen to choose from, so the night was not lost for all.

Heh! Really? I can't tell it's uneven! :P Good job "faking it", then!

Damn. Worgen and gnoll, even ... I have been contemplating making a Troll mask, just for fun, I've been working out how to do it in my head. Half-face, light-weight, and if I can figure out how to do it, able to easily flip up or down in case I need to ie: eat. =P

Yeeaah, simple functions like that tend to be a problem when working with larger or non-humanoid heads, ones that require a whole entire headpiece instead of just a simplified mask. A friend of mine makes custom headpieces along with other various parts, claws, multi-segmented legs, and the like, and she manages to make the jaw of her skull bases on an articulated hinge-- with a customized mold to snugly fit against the wearer's own chin within the headpiece and a line of elastic running to the back to the head so that the mouth opens and closes when you talk.

It's quite an impressive setup and makes for an even more amazing display when worn.

But even then, when I went around with her and her husband in costume, it's wise to A) have a 'handler' of sorts [cause depending on the skull/build/design of the head, your field of vision is shiiiit-- like a horse with blinders] and B) be sure to have long straws on hand if you intend to be in costume for a while. :P

It's a Logitech HD cam, though it was filming in SD for this. Expensive, but good quality; I've had it for over 2 years now and it still works a treat.

It's not acne I'm concerned about. I get horrid eczema if I so much as sweat too much; my entire face goes red and swells, and my skin starts to peel and crack. It's worse if I have glue or makeup on my face for too long.

Dry skin, peeling skin, I get wrinkles around my eyes or--if it's really bad--they swell shut. Itching all over my body, and one time my skin reacted so violently to my own sweat that my lips cracked open and bled in multiple places. I still have a discoloured mark on my bottom lip that is actually scar tissue from one such episode.

So saw these pictures, and the first thing that came to mind was this:

...What if....what if Laz'ab,  a fellow who could teach murder and mayhem to some of Genghis Khan's more demonic generals, isn't as mad as we all think? What if, one day many years ago, he just wanted to show his appreciation for the band KISS? Someone see's him wearing the make up, and to avoid ridicule just rolls with it.

"What? NO!! I'm not dressed up like Paul Stanley, what gave you that idea? I am a Sith!"

And then obviously the murder and madness was used to cover up this clever lie.

(And by doing that we avoid learning a heart breaking back story that adds a...well...I'll not say innocent, but a tragic note that explains the gleeful psychopath with the lightsaber. Carry on with the art work! :) )

Okay I know I already commented on this, but I really can't get over the fact that you totally look like Laz'ab in these pictures. Not sure if it's just the makeup or the expressions or whatever, but I'm super impressed. You'd be absolutely terrifying if you ever came up with a whole cosplay for him. (Though that would also be hella expensive.)

I very much enjoy your in-character cosplay shenanigans. Makes me want to make my own!
